And so we reach the end of July and our 23rd pictures of the week installment, where is this year going? We’ve had a whole load of sensational imagery uploaded to 17³Ô¹ÏÔÚÏß this week, but as always we can only choose 5 shots to highlight as our favourites…

Why we think this is great: These spirulina powder ice lollies caught our eye as we were trawling through this weeks uploads, simply because they look pretty cool. We love the ombre effect in the lollies themselves and the backdrop, that at a glance looks like a galaxy far far away, is using the colour Sargasso Sea which is an autumn/winter Pantone colour trend for this year.

Why we think this is great: The weather in the UK turned this week and we’ve gone from sunshine and clear skies to thunderstorms and buckets of rain. For some it’s been seen as a welcome break but for others it’s a sad realisation that our usual British summer could return. Whatever the weather near you, it’s always in the news come sun, rain or snow so there’s always something you can shoot and upload.

Why we think this is great: Images of unique faces and real, authentic people are a growing trend this year and this natural portrait fits the trend perfectly. If you’d like some more inspiration for this trend, look no further.

Why we think this is great: We love how this photographer has used bokeh to draw the viewers attention to the bumblebee and flower stalk in this image, it adds depth and drama resulting in an aesthetically pleasing shot.

Why we think this is great: This weekend British cyclist Geraint Thomas won the 105th Tour de France cycling race. This photograph of him and team mate Luke Rowe carrying the Welsh flag on their backs as they cycle the 21st stage of the race can stand alone as a historic image and evokes a reaction, both are important elements of a successful news image.
If 5 images aren’t enough, check out more great images submitted in the last week. Motivated to get uploading this week?
