Best Cities for Street Photography

Authentic is a word that is being used a lot in stock photography at the moment. Now, more than ever, customers are searching for those raw, real, gritty shots and is a great way to capture this. The creative world is craving unique faces and street photography is set to be a big trend in 2018.

I love to travel and I鈥檓 always looking for the next destination to satisfy that 鈥榳anderlust鈥 craving. I have visited a lot of cities all over the world so I鈥檓 going to let you know my top 5 for amazing street photography.

Delhi, India

With Delhi being the capital of India this might seem an obvious choice but I couldn鈥檛 leave it out. It’s frenetic crowded streets are full of colour and are every street photographers dream. Filled with markets, Mosques and a population of around 19 million its beautifully chaotic and you鈥檒l never run out of photo opportunities.

Top tip: The streets of would be my go to, its doused in history and culture that will never lose its charm.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio is a city of extremes and it really has it all. There鈥檚 beautiful beaches which are always packed with tourists and locals, antique markets, designer shops and sprawling favelas. You will not be short of photo ops and the city is jam packed full of colour and a buzz like no-where else I鈥檝e been.

Top tip: The favelas are great for street photography but if you鈥檙e planning on heading there then make sure you go on an . Crime is rife all over Rio but the favelas especially are no place to go alone with expensive gear.

La Paz, Bolivia

If you can get past the altitude sickness, La Paz is a perfect place for street photography and one of my personal favourites, probably because it鈥檚 not quite as obvious as the others and I like to be different鈥

The congested streets are lined with food vendors and locals in traditional clothing and there鈥檚 basically a market on every corner. There aren鈥檛 many conventional tourist attractions but the combination of indigenous and European influences makes a truly unique culture that you鈥檒l want to revisit.

Top tip: Head to 鈥淓l Mercado de Las Brujas de La Paz鈥 or 鈥淭he La Paz Witches Market鈥, it will make for some interesting photography and you can pick up a weird souvenir or two whilst your there.

Melbourne, Australia

One of the most liveable cities in the world, Melbourne is a lot more modern and westernised than the previous places in my list but isn鈥檛 short of style and charm. With buskers, graffiti, and hipsters a plenty, there are some amazing photo opportunities to be had. They even have their own annual .

Top tip: head to Hosier lane for some of the best urban art you鈥檒l ever see.

Havana, Cuba

Last but not least we have Havana, landing there is like stepping back in time. The buildings are neglected, faded and deteriorating but the city is still full of colour which is perfect for street photographers. Classic cars and colonial architecture fill the streets and the locals create an irresistible vibe.

Top tip: take a long walk and explore all the backstreets and alleys. The locals are very friendly so talk to them, there is nothing better than local knowledge and you鈥檒l probably discover some unique photography opportunities that other tourists won鈥檛 have found.
