Ever wondered what it鈥檚 like to work in the photography industry? Over the next few months we鈥檒l be interviewing some of the 17吃瓜在线 team to give you insights into what they do, how they got here, and their views on the industry. Our third interview is with Elisabeth, our Content Operations Assistant. She is part of the Content team –聽they look after everything to do with getting imagery on 17吃瓜在线, working with photographers, videographers and other photo agencies to build up our collection.

Name: Elisabeth H酶iberg
Job title: Content Operations Assistant

I鈥檓 the newest addition to the Content Team having only joined 17吃瓜在线 a year ago, and as my job title implies, I鈥檓 here to help out with the masses of content we get in from our photographers. A lot of my time is spent聽on quality control (which is great as I get to look at pictures all day), but I鈥檓 also involved in creating the email campaigns we send to our contributors. It feels like there is always something new to get stuck into in my role, which is brilliant聽because it feels like I鈥檓 constantly developing and learning new skills. 聽Some of you might be familiar with how our quality control works, but for those of you who aren鈥檛, it鈥檚 a process all our images go through so we can be confident that the content on our website meets the technical standards our customers expect.

How important is the QC step? Well, with a library of over 57million images, I would say it鈥檚 crucial. Whatever they鈥檙e looking for, customers can feel reassured that they鈥檒l find quality images. It鈥檚 this reassurance that keeps our customers returning to us. And photographers –聽imagine if your image was picked to be used prominently in an advertising campaign, put up on a 6 meter wide billboard. How gutted would you be if the sale was refunded because of technical flaws in your picture? I would personally be more upset about this than not making the sale in the first place…

Norway

This image was shot in Norway聽last winter. I often go for long walks and just take pictures of anything I find aesthetically pleasing.

My views on the stock industry have changed dramatically over the last year. I blame art education for giving me the impression that being a photographer and being a stock-photographer聽are two separate things. It didn鈥檛 take me long to discover how huge the industry is, its opportunities, and what it actually means for photographers in terms of income.

I still have a lot to learn, but if I could change anything about the industry (and if I had the skills to do it), I would create a revolutionary new keywording system that means photographers never have to worry about such things again! Luckily, other people share this dream, and hopefully the future will bring better tools that give photographers even more time to聽spend being聽creative.

Here鈥檚 a portrait I shot of a friend a couple of years back.

There are two sides to me and they are in constant opposition. Growing up in rural Norwegian countryside has left traces of a craving for the wilderness, and this feeling is always there. Equally, I could not imagine a life without the buzz of the city and people around me. I try my best to balance these two worlds.

Like a moth banging its head on a light bulb, I鈥檝e always been drawn towards everything visual. My earliest memory of this obsession takes me back to my first day at school. Our homework was to draw the house we lived in and I must have spent the rest of the day on my drawing. The result was a complete map of the inside of our house including every single bit of furniture and every little object. Even the dishes were featured.

鈥淎lmost Elemental鈥.

This image is from a photo series called 鈥淎lmost Elemental鈥. I love taking pictures that belong together and communicate a story.

My father was a keen photographer and eventually I adopted his passion for that too. After 5 years of Art Photography education, I moved to Edinburgh and worked freelance. Jobs involved everything from exciting press assignments to less adventurous photo shoots of hotel rooms. This combined with holding workshops on both darkroom development and Photoshop eventually led me to work here!
