If there’s one thing that unites humanity, it’s food. Everybody has to eat. And dinner time can still be relied upon to bring families together.
Food may not be the answer to world peace, but it’s a start. – Anthony Bourdain
You could even say that we’re obsessed with food but that’s hardly surprising seeing as it’s essential for survival. Thousands of years of agricultural advances means we don’t think about food in the same way as when we were hunter-gatherers, but it still plays on our natural instincts.
That’s why panic-buying still happens at times despite reassurance from supermarkets that food supply is perfectly adequate. We have access to practically any food, in the first world at least, but lunchtime is a priority for many during the day. Some people even suffer from being ‘hangry’ (angry from being hungry)!
Since the inception of Instagram, our love for food to risen to new heights. We love taking pictures of our carefully crafted plates at home or masterfully prepared meals at our favourite restaurant. Our eyes do most of the mastication before the food even reaches our mouths. We worship food, and rightly so! I’m getting hungry now…
Search #foodporn on social media and you’ll see what I mean. The hashtag has been pretty popular on Instagram for a while now. Don’t worry, it’s not people doing lewd things with food although that is another example of our fascination with food.
The Food is art collection celebrates our love for food and how it’s not all about taste but also about looks. From classy, chiaroscuro-inspired arrangements to bold splashes of colour, food can be displayed in a vast number of ways to get us craving for a taste. It’s gone beyond the natural patterns of fresh produce; it’s turned into a full sensory experience that we immortalise and savour with food photography.
My crumpets are ready now so let me go capture them before I indulge myself.
