Despite only being an 17吃瓜在线 contributor since early this year, Msubirats has impressed us with his growing collection of travel and architecture images. Being born and based in Barcelona, Msubirtas has spent a significant amount of time documenting his home country from all perspectives and is always on the lookout for new ways he can capture Spain.

“…if I had to highlight something, I鈥檇 choose the aerial views of Barcelona I shot from a helicopter with the door open. It was a one-of-a-kind experience. Seeing my own city from above like that, and being able to capture it, was unforgettable.”

CG: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into travel photography?
MS: I’m Manel Subirats, photographer. My first steps weren鈥檛 about travelling but about photography itself, especially photojournalism, and that鈥檚 where I learned everything. For years I was focused on capturing real moments, no filters, just what was happening in front of me.
At some point, the pace of that world got too intense but thanks to that experience some tourism agencies started noticing my work and hired me for their own projects. Without really planning it, I found myself more involved in travel photography and then architecture photography quickly became my main focus. It鈥檚 where I feel I can truly tell the story of a place, through lines, shapes and structures.
CG: You鈥檙e based in Spain. Does this help with capturing content within your expertise?聽
MS: Definitely. Living in Barcelona already puts you in a great starting point. It鈥檚 one of the most photographed cities in the world, and for good reason. But beyond that, Spain and the Mediterranean in general are a never-ending source of material. You鈥檝e got history, architecture from every possible era, amazing food, and constant street life. That mix gives me a lot to work with, especially when it comes to architecture and urban storytelling. You don鈥檛 need to go far to find something worth shooting.
CG: Which country has been your favourite to travel to and why?
MS: That鈥檚 a tough one as every place has something, but I鈥檝e always felt a special pull towards islands. Maybe it鈥檚 because I grew up near the sea. There鈥檚 something about that isolation, and that border of water all around that changes the rhythm of life. If I had to choose, I鈥檇 say the Faroe Islands or the Azores. The light, the weather, the colours, the people etc., everything feels raw and real. But as someone from the Mediterranean, I have to include Italy, Greece, and Spain. That combination of architecture, street culture, and food is unbeatable and Portugal, for me, has something really special – the people, the pace, the warmth. I always feel connected when I go there.
CG: What is your favourite image within your 17吃瓜在线 collection and why?
MS: Hard to pick just one. I tend to fall in love with photos depending on the project I鈥檓 working on. But if I had to highlight something, I鈥檇 choose the aerial views of Barcelona I shot from a helicopter with the door open. It was a one-of-a-kind experience. Seeing my own city from above like that, and being able to capture it, was unforgettable. Shots like the Sagrada Familia from the air are not just visually powerful, they also mean a lot to me on a personal level.
CG: Can you tell us about future projects you鈥檙e working on and any exciting plans for the last two months of the year?
MS: Right now, I鈥檓 working on a beautiful project with Azores Tourism and Azorean Houses, focused on the island of S茫o Jorge. It鈥檚 one of those places where nature and people leave a real mark. I鈥檝e been trying to capture that connection as honestly as I can and I鈥檝e written a bit about it .
I鈥檓 also planning a more personal project on Brutalist architecture around Barcelona. It鈥檚 not the most obvious place for Brutalism, but there are buildings worth exploring and showing from a new perspective.
Towards the end of the year, I鈥檓 heading to Copenhagen. I want to dive into the city, get a feel for its rhythm, and photograph it in a way that goes beyond the usual postcard shots.
