During the Jewish month of Nissan, Orthodox Jews saunter down to the seafront at Southend-on-Sea, Essex. They are celebrating Passover [Hebrew: Pesach].
It’s a big occasion. After all, Passover celebrates Jewish liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt. During the 8-day holiday, Jews avoid leaven, enjoy Seder meals – consisting of four cups of wine, bitter herbs and matzah (unleavened flatbread) – and regale in the story of the Exodus.
Chief PA photographer, Stefan Rousseau, spent two days photographing them and capturing candid moments by the sea of Orthodox Jews from London and Essex.
