The Royal Wedding is happening on the 19th of May and it will be one of the most photographed events this decade, and you don鈥檛 have to be in London or Windsor to take part.聽You can get a sale or a picture published in an editorial publication by covering events and people local to you.
Here are some top tips for how to get the most from your photography before and during the big day, with some ideas of what to shoot:
Ahead of the royal wedding, worldwide prep
Preparing for your regions 鈥淩oyal鈥 event
- Scour your personal contacts as well as your local newspapers, radio, online events, listings and forums to find out information.
- Look for interesting events being hosted or quirky stories that you can make visual.
- Preparing for mass weddings, polishing clocks in the tower and hanging bunting all make great picture of the day 鈥減re-pictures鈥 ahead of the main event.
Avid Royal fans and collectors
- Look for interesting individuals who have every Royal commemorative item or who have celebrated Royal events in their own special way.
Security
- Big public occasions can be a target for illicit crime. If you see extra security details, sniffer dogs, fencing or x-ray gates being set up, it鈥檚 worth getting pictures. A newspaper鈥檚 job is to inform the public and that includes extra precautions the organizers are taking for public events.
Camping out and queues for the best spots
- Whereever the public can view the wedding for free, there will be people making a pilgrimage to that location. - Look for someone in your area that is working at the wedding, providing a talent, skill or provision for the wedding or is one of the lucky guests. Send in pictures of them with their invitation, or demonstrating their talent and gift.
Weddings on the same day
- Go to your local cathedral, church, temple, mosque, stone circle and talk to the religious leader. Explain what you want. You will need, pictures of the bride and groom, their names and quick story of their wedding and what they thought when they heard Meghan and Harry were to marry on their wedding day. If they chose it after the announcement, then why? Ideally, we want pictures in wedding clothes, so you might have to arrange to get a picture of them after they are married.
Royal look-a-likes
- Do you know someone that looks like Harry and Meghan? Have your children been asked to play Harry and Meghan at the village re-enactment? Get the pictures of the cute couple together. Make sure all the details are in the caption including who they are, where they are from, their ages and what they thought when someone asked them to be play the part of the royal couple.
