The US elections are heating up and this year will be like no other. The process has started with early voting and record numbers of ballots are being sent in by mail or dropped off at locations designated by the Governor of each state. This means there are loads of great photo opportunities and stories to capture. Are you interested in shooting press pictures covering the US elections?
Covering for Live News has different requirements than stock. Here are the main rules when filing to 17³Ô¹ÏÔÚÏß Live News.
Pictures must be timely
We need photos ‘of the moment’. This means photos that could only have been captured at that particular time; it’s unique. Maybe there’s a person, animal or exceptional circumstance happening in front of your lens that is unparalleled. To simplify: stay away from signs, buildings, still life, studio and set up shots. Cover people, events and animals.
Complete and detailed captions make sales
Editors read captions and detailed captions make their job easier. We have a simple formula to make this easy for you. You have 600 characters, so you don’t have to scrimp on the details. Captions and descriptions should be in this order.
Location in image, country in image. Date of image. What is happening in the picture? Who is in the picture? What else do we need to know? Credit: Your Credit/17³Ô¹ÏÔÚÏß Live News.
Be urgent
News desks are always trying to beat their competitors to the story. That means they want their images immediately. Don’t wait until morning to send in your pictures.
Know your local area
Is there a boat rally or golf cart parade for a candidate? Do you know when and where your candidates are voting? Is the riding club delivering their ballots on horseback? Are the socially distanced queues creating traffic jams? Do your research and get information that will inform your shoot.
Don’t forget about the reaction shot
Sometimes, the best pictures happen after the action when people’s true feelings come out.
