US Presidents over the years

After months of campaigning, the US Presidential election culminated on 8th November 2016, when Trump got voted in as the next President of the United States. As President Obama stood down, we took a look back over the centuries at some of the 44 leaders of the free world…

1789-97 – George Washington

As one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, George Washington was the first ever President of the United States, sworn into office on 30th April 1789.

1801-09 – Thomas Jefferson

One of the Founding Fathers of the United States, prior to his Presidency Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

1933-45 – Franklin D. Roosevelt

The only US president to be elected four times, FDR led the US through the Great Depression and World War II, remaining as president until his death in 1945.

1961-63 – John F. Kennedy

JFK was the 35th President, serving for just under 3 years before he was assassinated in 1963.

1981-89 – Ronald Reagan

During Reagan’s two terms in office, the US saw the restoration of prosperity at home, and his goal of achieving “peace through strength” seemed to be within reach.

2009 – present – Barack H. Obama

In 2009, Obama became the first African American to hold office, as well as the first president born outside of the United States.

As Barack Obama’s presidential term ended, we saw a fierce battle between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump in the run-up to the US election. The outcome? Donald Trump was inaugurate on 20th January 2017 and is now the 45th leader of the free world.
