A single mayfly, order ephemeroptera, silhouetted against a setting sun, north Dorset England UK GB. There are about 47 species in the UK and once they have emerged from rivers or stillwaters their lives are very short. Trout fishing during the mayfly hatch is very popular as the the trout feast on the mayflies and the period of the hatch is often referred to as Duffer’s Fortnight as anyone is deemed capable of catching a trout.
