May 09, 2007 - Los Angeles, CA, USA - The worlds first environmentally 'Green' gas station has been built in Los Angeles, CA. The station is powered by 90 solar panels hidden on top of the station's recycleable alumumin canopy. The concrete pavement is mixed with recycled glass. The rainwater collection system gathers water for the drought resistant plants. Low energy LED lights use 50 percent less power than fluoresent lighting. Motion sensor lights are used in the restrooms. It was painted with low VOC paint. The BP owned station is called 'Helios House'. It still sells the same hyrocarbon based fuels but in an eco-friendly environment. The station shows green videos built into screens on the pumps. BP is one of the worlds largest solar panel manufactures. Helios House is expected to be the first gas station to be certified as 'green' by the U.S. Green Building Council.
