Creative jobs – how to stand out from the crowd

Make your CV stand out and land your perfect creative job.

There’s a lot of competition when it comes to jobs in the creative industries, so you need to make sure you stand out. Here are our top tips for creating the perfect CV for a creative role…

Show off your skills
Use your creative skills to make your CV look wow! Whether it’s graphic design, illustration, photography or something else, your CV is a chance to show off your skills. This is the first impression you’re going to make on a potential employer, so make sure they know how good you are. You need to get noticed and leave a lasting impression

Don’t forget the detail
As well as looking great, your CV needs to contain all the details that an employer is expecting to see – vital details like your level of education, work experience, skills etc. A good looking CV can grab their attention, but it will be your skills and experience that get you the job.

Keep it relevant
This might sound a bit time consuming, but try and tailor each CV to the job you’re applying for. Believe me, if you are just sending out a generic piece of paper, there’s a strong chance you’ll get overlooked, especially it’s competing with super creative, unique CVs.

Prepare your social pages
A
lways assume that when you apply for a job, you’ll be checked out on social media. To make sure your page doesn’t put potential employers off you can do a few things…

  1. Create a business page which you can reference in your CV – this is the perfect way to show off you creative skills
  2. Make sure your personal page only has content that you want potential employers to see
  3. Check your privacy settings and limit what people who aren’t your friends can see
