 1. England – Pancakes
Made from flour, eggs and milk, traditional English pancakes have a thin batter and are often served drizzled with lemon juice and sprinkled with sugar.

2. US – Pancakes
Also known as pancakes but made with a thicker batter than the UK version, US pancakes are traditionally eaten for breakfast and are served with maple syrup, whipped butter and streaky bacon.

3. France – Crêpes
A super thin batter made from flour, milk and eggs – crêpes can be served with sweet or savoury accompaniments.

4. Australia – Pikelets
Made from milk, flour, eggs and icing sugar – pikelets are traditionally served with jam, whipped cream or butter and enjoyed at afternoon tea.

5. India – Dosa
A fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils, Dosa is a traditional dish in the south of India and is often served with chutneys and eaten for breakfast or as street food.

6. Austria – Kaiserschmarren pancakes
A light caramelised pancake that’s split using two forks while it is being cooked, the Kaiserschmarren is traditionally eaten as a dessert with fruit compote.

7. Japan – Okonomiyaki
A savoury pancake traditionally made from flour, egg and a choice of other ingredients. Its name translated is “what you want”.

8. Thailand – Banana pancakes
Banana pancakes have become a backpacking tradition across Asia, in Thailand amongst other places. There is now an established ‘banana pancake trail’ across Asia where you can visit a variety of restaurants and street vendors serving them.

9. Indonesia – Serabi
This pancake made from rice flour and coconut milk is often enjoyed as a sweet treat with coconut sugar syrup. Serabi recipes differ across Indonesia based on local tastes and produce.
